Improvements

Sophie - RESEARCH AND PLANNING:

You need to aim for level 3. Research into your target audience needs to be improved with pie charts and percentages, and explanations what these results tell you. Your photography and video needs to have clear work on shotlists and video, well illustrated in themselves and posted on the blog.

At level 2 you’ve achieved only basic research, especially on the target audience, and basic organisation of photography. There isn’t anything on video and you haven’t got a video on the site.

Your other site isn’t visible, and that needs to be found and given to me.

The mark you would get for this is at the basic level - 7, barely a pass, and I know you can do much better than this!

EVALUATION:

Understanding of forms and conventions is OK, but the site doesn’t lend itself to an evaluation that show you understand the role and use of new media: there isn’t any evaluation of the effect of your video - well, because there isn’t one. The survey isn’t completed with results. Your write up has no supporting evidence! You have used technology and ICT in the presentation. At them moment this stands at 8 marks! Please do everything you can to bring it up to a complete level 2, or you will do yourself an injustice!

The site itself would achieve about 18 marks. Unfortunately, you would have 15 marks taken from your total out of 100, because your preliminary site isn’t there, so your total out of 100 would be 18. You won't pass with this mark. You have work to do! Attendance has been one of the problems for both you and Charlie, so please get what you need to do, done.

Please read this and start to get your blog beautiful and polished. Each improvement will help you get another mark - the difference between one grade and another is only a mark.

Some Questions

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A lot of media organisations would present our website as it is for charity, and something people can relate to and support.

Most organisations would like to help us distribute our media product because they would like to help the cause of our charity.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience of our website would be people who can sympathize towards soldiers, as they may have known one, or have one in the family, or been one in the past, also people may feel strongly about helping the cause but have never known how to do this, therefore this website is a great way to let people know how to do that. The organisation is not just for soldiers fighting in Iraq but also for other soldiers in other countries and for those who are returning home.

The website allows people to donate money to the cause, and also help raise money in the charity events we hold, such as fun runs and fairs.

According to our survey, the vast majority of the people we sampled read the sun, therefore we could advertise in the sun, and may get some people interested in helping the cause.

How did you attract/address your audience?

We attracted our audience by advertising our website over the Internet, on other sites, so and in newspapers, we also advertised it by word of mouth, this way there are lots of different ways for people to hear and know about us, and know how to get involved and help our cause.

What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

We have both learnt a lot about technologies from the process of constructing this product. Most of the new skills I have learnt are using the software on the imac. At first I found it difficult to get used to using an imac, as I had never used one before, the software was different to a windows computer. The software we used mostly was, iweb, which we used to build and design our website. We also used photo shop to design and create our logo, it was very difficult to understand what all the signs and buttons meant, but once you knew it was considerably easier. We also used the programme word, to type pieces of work, and print hard copies easily. It is very easy to use and helped us to evaluate our website and explain what we have done.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

We have learnt many things since doing our preliminary task. We have improved our use of skills and have become more advanced in web design and using the software that is needed. We also used Photoshop and learnt some basic skills, as we had to create a logo for our charity organisation. We also had to take all our own photos and record our own videos, as we weren’t allowed to copy them from the internet and other organisations. This proved quite difficult for us as we had chosen to do a charity for the army, however, we did manage to find some cadets that did not mind us coming and taking photos while they were performing their operations and training. We have mostly developed our skills in iweb and how to use that software. We learnt how to write text, change the colours, add pictures and other operations such as these.
